Community Programs

Community Programs

At The Naples Players we are dedicated to enriching Southwest Florida through artistic experiences that promote personal, social, and cultural wellbeing. We bring programming out into the community to serve students and families impacted by various societal challenges including homelessness, grief, poverty, mental health, and disability, many of whom may otherwise not have access to our theatre.

Our team of trained applied theatre artists masterfully tailor each program for specific age groups and unique needs of each community partner.

Alzheimer's Support Network

In collaboration with The Alzheimer’s Support Network and Cross Align Media, The Naples Players facilitated an eight week long film project in which members of the Alzheimer’s Support Network living with cognitive impairment engaged in artistic exercises and creative activities, learning to express themselves and tell their stories in new ways. Together, they devised a collaborative group poem entitled These Hands Have. The inspiration for this piece came from each and every member and the stories of their lives, all the places their hands have been and all the things they have done. The whole poem is a verbatim collaboration of words spoken during our sessions.

This collaboration allowed individuals with brain change to connect through storytelling and the arts, promoting personal and social wellbeing through cognitive stimulation and the development of agency and autonomy. These sessions were filmed and audio recorded to create a visual representation of their poem. The film was created in collaboration with Cross Align Media.

STARability

STARability exists to transform the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Naples Players teaches weekly improv and musical theatre classes at STARability to connect with young adults and adults with developmental disabilities. The Naples Players teaches in-person and online classes to improve core communication skills and vocational skills through various improv games. We also teach online “Musical Theatre Mondays” to introduce students to song and dance skills in preparation for final performance.
