History
The Naples Players first opened our doors on 5th Avenue in 1998, invited by the City of Naples to help revitalize what was then a struggling downtown. Now, more than 25 years later, TNP has once again invested in our community—this time by reopening a fully renovated facility in 2024 to protect and enhance a now thriving, world-class downtown district.
Our renovation not only transformed our two existing performance venues, but also introduced a third new space dedicated to education and community programs. With the latest technologies and upgraded infrastructure, we’ve ensured an exceptional artistic experience that reflects the small-town charm and high standards Naples is known for.
More importantly, this renovation secured the future of The Naples Players—expanding our capacity to meet growing demand while more deeply fulfilling our mission to build community through exceptional access to the power of theatre.
Is it “The Sugden” or “The Naples Players?”
BOTH! In 1996, The Naples Players was invited by the city to build in downtown Naples to revitalize a struggling 5th Avenue. After successful fundraising, The Naples Players opened our facility, “The Sugden Community Theater.” Locals have called it "The Sugden" ever since, though “The Naples Players” is the true name of our organization.
