1. How did you find out about The Naples Players?
Growing up, theatre and music were my passion and it had been many years since I had even been on a stage. I adore old movies and had read online that there was going to be a showing of Casablanca, one of my favorite movies, here at the theater. Naturally, I was thrilled and had to come see the movie. Scott (front of the house manager) greeted me at the entrance and made the experience such a ‘wow’ moment. As I left that night, I stopped by and asked Scott, “does this theater also have live performances?” He said, “yes” and went on to share more with me about the community of The Naples Players. I was inspired and began to follow the TNP website and look for opportunities to volunteer and be part of live theatre again.
2. Describe your daily routine/tasks at TNP!
I have the pleasure of volunteering with the stage management team here. Currently, I am stage managing The Sipping Savannah Society, and my tasks include: rehearsal reports, production team correspondence, delivering updates to the cast and director, running rehearsals 5 nights a week, and finally, being a positive and grateful volunteer every time I enter the doors at TNP.
3. What is the best new skill you have gained from volunteering with TNP so far?
I have learned to adapt quickly with different personalities. The culture at The Naples Players is very welcoming. Everyone comes from a different walk of life and is able to work together for the love of theatre. I have also learned a tremendous amount about backstage work. That includes: lights, sound, props, and costume, as well as, how all of these moving parts work cohesively in order to create success. I was fortunate enough to enroll into Cole Butcher’s Stage Management class and that was so helpful to see all the aspects of putting a show together. I knew right away that is where I wanted to be – working with the cast and production team to create magic.
4. Were there any unexpected bonuses?
I have made so many friends here and I am beyond proud of all the successes each one of them has achieved. Learning so much backstage has been delightful – moving a set piece, bringing in a fly, helping an actor dress, and handing off a prop. Most importantly, I love to do Line Notes!
5. What makes TNP special to you?
The team here is full of heart and honesty. I drive here from North Naples as often as I can to volunteer not only because I have a passion for live theatre but also because the Naples Players is my home away from home.
6. What are your future ambitions for theatre?
I would love to continue to be an assistant stage manager and eventually stage manage shows here at The Naples Players. I will continue to watch live theatre and be a part of it. If the Naples Players ever needed my assistance for any projects I would be more than happy to assist. I will always give my time to The Naples Players whether it is backstage crew, assistant stage managing, line notes, usher, assist with an event – I am here to help! This is a theater that cares and has built a culture of love. I am proud to be part of it and will continue to help in any aspect I may. |
