For this audition, please prepare 32 bars of a song to sing (about a minute’s worth). Preferably sheet music, hole punched, in a binder. Non-vocal backing tracks are also acceptable. Please plan to be there for 1.5-2 hours. The audition process is time-consuming and we will do our best to stay on schedule.

DESCRIPTIONS:
Sweeney Todd (both Adult and Teen)
An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up… and the carnage has only just begun!

This show dramatizes and highlights language and actions of murder, blood and gore, cannibalism (intentional and unintentional), mental illness, and intended sexual violence. Characters:
- SWEENEY TODD – (Male, 40-55, Range: Gb4-F2) A wrongfully imprisoned barber seeking to right the wrongs committed against him. He is Johanna’s father, singularly focussed on taking bloody revenge. Our story’s tormented protagonist.
- MRS. LOVETT – (Female, 35-50, Range: E5-G3) An entrepreneurial and amoral meat pie shop owner. She falls in love with Todd and turns his desire for revenge into a profitable business venture.
- ANTHONY HOPE – (Male, 18-30, Range: F4-Bb2) A naive and youthful sailor returning to London. He helps Todd return to London and unexpectedly falls in love with Johanna.
- JOHANNA – (Female, 18-21, Range: A5-Bb3) A spritely girl, full of innocence, constantly yearning for freedom. Todd’s long-lost daughter and Turpin’s ward..
- TOBIAS RIGG – (Flexible, 12-18, Range: Ab4-Bb2) A poor youngster apprenticed to Pirelli. He finds a surrogate family in Todd and Lovett.
- JUDGE TURPIN – (Male, 50-70, Range: Gb4-E2) A lecherous public official who portrays himself as a sanctimonious authoritarian. He takes advantage of his position in the city and is responsible for imprisoning Todd.
- THE BEADLE – (Male, 40-55, Range: D5-D3) A pompous public official. He is deeply loyal to the corrupt Turpin.
- BEGGAR WOMAN – (Female, 35-50, Range: F5-Ab3) A deranged and schizophrenic woman who harbors a dark, surprising secret.
- ADOLFO PIRELLI – (Male, 20-45, Range: C5-B2) A flamboyant Italian rival barber; a charlatan with a secret past.
- JONAS FOG – (Male, 35-60, Range: none listed) The owner of Fogg’s Asylum. He sells the hair of madmen to wigmakers.

Characters:
- OCEAN – (Female, Range: Soprano) Born December 22nd, Ocean is a competitive over-achiever who struggles to put others before herself. She is mainly portrayed as the protagonist throughout the show.
- JANE DOE – (Female, Range: Soprano) A decapitated girl who is unsure of her true identity. She is revealed at the end of the show to be Penny Lamb, born April 7th.
- MISCHA – (Male, Range: Tenor) Born August 18th in a small town outside of Odessa, Mischa is a Ukrainian adoptee who puts on a gangster persona to conceal his passionate nature. He has an online fiancée Talia, of whom he met through his YouTube comment section, where he raps under the name of ‘Bad Egg’.
- NOEL – (Male, Range: Tenor) Born March 5th, Noel has an obsession with French New Wave cinema. He sings as his alter-ego: Monique Gibbeau, who is partially based off of Marlene Dietrich as Lola Lola in ‘The Blue Angel (1939)’.
- RICKY – (Male, Range: Tenor) Born June 5th, Ricky Potts is a mute boy with a degenerative disease and an overactive imagination. He gains the ability to speak in the after-life and talks about his fantasies of the ‘Zolarian galaxy’.
- CONSTANCE – (Female, Range: Alto) Born November 14th, Constance is the secretly self-loathing “nicest girl in town” who has complicated feelings about her hometown.
- KARNAK – (Male, Range: non-singing) A mechanical fortune-telling machine that serves as the narrator and gamemaster. He appears several times throughout the cast album, breaking the fourth wall by directly addressing the listener.
- VIRGIL – (Flexible, Range: non-singing) The rat chewing through Karnak’s power cable, who plays the bass guitar throughout the show.
- THE UNDERWORLDS – (Flexible, Range: non-singing)
